Businesses are now very concerned about the increased attack surface area due to the proliferation of mobile devices that employees bring to the workplace. Securing computers at the workplace therefore becomes a real challenge.

Although there is a demand for greater security, there is also a demand for more convenience. Hence, the traditional password is increasingly becoming a backup method of authentication. The emphasis has also shifted from securing computers to securing data.

AMD has committed to adopt the open standards-based approach. Hence, the AMD PRO 6th Generation Processor will come with a co-processor called the AMD Secure Processor. It uses the ARM TrustZone Technology, which is the largest open-standard security ecosystem. Although this technology is already implemented in mobile devices, AMD will be the first to introduce it to the Windows platform.

This is what the AMD Secure Processor hardware-software stack looks like. The AMD Secure Processor itself is made up of a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and a crypto-processor.

With its own dedicated memory and buses, it can run secure applications in isolation from the "normal" side of the processor.
