The NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT is a killer graphics card. Not only does it offer a tremendous amount of 3D processing power in a smaller, cooler package, NVIDIA has also priced it at a really affordable price point. Little wonder why demand for this card has been so high. Our benchmark results showed just how fast the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT really is. It was almost as fast as the GeForce 8800 GTX. It did best in Company Of Heroes where it was 3% faster than the GeForce 8800 GTX at 1280 x 1024. At the higher resolutions, it was only 4-8% slower. In Supreme Commander, it was about 6-12% slower. Our tests also showed that the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT was much faster than the ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT graphics card. The GeForce 8800 GT was anywhere between 5% to 18% faster than the ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT. These are really amazing achievements because both the GeForce 8800 GTX and the Radeon HD 2900 XT cost more than twice as much as the GeForce 8800 GT! In fact, it is more cost-effective to buy two GeForce 8800 GT cards and run them in SLI than buy a GeForce 8800 GTX or the even more expensive GeForce 8800 Ultra. For certain, it does not make sense to buy the ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT when the GeForce 8800 GT is not only faster but also very much cheaper. The NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT is also a more compelling choice than the older GeForce 8800 cards because it is the first GeForce 8800 card to feature the VP2 video processor, which allows you to completely offload HD decoding to the graphics card. It is also the first GeForce 8800 card to be fabricated on the 65 nm process technology, which allows for a smaller, cooler and faster GPU. The result is a truly compelling mid-range graphics card, offering a tremendous amount of processing power but without the high cost associated with the higher-end GeForce 8800 graphics cards. If you do not already own a GeForce 8800 Ultra / GTX / GTS, this is definitely a graphics card you should consider, especially if you want to play DirectX 10 games. Forget the GeForce 8600/8500 series. You know you WANT the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT! We are most impressed with the performance and affordability of the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT that we feel it deserves nothing less than an Editor's Choice Award. We hope this will encourage NVIDIA to offer more graphics cards of such caliber and value.
