This is the most important test for those who intend to use the FreeAgent GoFlex as a portable boot drive. In this small random access test, the 1 TB FreeAgent GoFlex did poorly. It was the second-worst drive, coming in just ahead of the 500 GB Western Digital My Passport Essential. Obviously, this isn't a very good choice for a boot drive!

When it came to large 512 KB random accesses, the 1 TB FreeAgent GoFlex did a little better. However, it was still one of the slower HDD-based external drives. It was actually slower than its little brother, the 500 GB Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex.
