The Activity LEDs
At the top of each module are two rows of nine LEDs, one for each memory bank. These LEDs provide the bling! bling! factor for these modules. Whenever data is being read from or written to these modules, the LEDs will light up according to the level of activity.
The first three LEDs in each row are yellow in colour to denote low levels of activity. The next three LEDs are orange in colour to signal medium levels of activity while the last three LEDs light up in red when there's heavy data reads or writes.
These LEDs will certainly add pizzazz to any PC enclosure with a window, which make these modules extremely attractive to case mod enthusiasts.
Under The Heatspreaders
To save you the effort of prying open the XMS heatspreaders, we requested some pictures of the naked modules from Corsair. They kindly obliged us with these pictures.
As you can see, the PCB used is taller than what we normally see in other memory modules. The extra PCB real estate is required for the placement of the row of LEDs right at the top as well as the control chips for the LEDs.
Here's a close-up of the front of the CMX1024-3500LLPRO module. As mentioned earlier, the Corsair 2GB XMS-3500LLPRO TwinX memory kit consists of two matched Corsair CMX1024- 3500LLPRO modules.
