Thermalright SP-97 Heat Sink Review

The Package

The SP-97 comes in a very simple package. Just an ordinary brown cardboard box with "Thermalright" printed on it. This is quite unlike other manufacturers that prefer to use attractive packaging.

The brown cardboard box.

When you open the box, you will see a shiny all-copper SP-97 heat sink and two sets of clips nestled within white foam.

When I first saw and held this heat sink, I immediately thought, "Wow! This heat sink sure looks cool and it's quite heavy!"

The SP-97 and the fan clips.

Below the white foam holding the heat sink and the fan clips is another layer of foam. Embedded within is a black base plate, a plastic protective sheet and some screws. Thermalright also provided a tube of thermal transfer compound.

But to my surprise, there was no installation manual in the package! For detailed instructions on installing this heat sink, you will have to refer to Thermalright's website here.

The base plate, plastic protective sheet and some screws.

If you buy the Thermalright SP-97, expect to find the following in the package :-

      • One SP-97 Heatsink
      • One pair of 80mm fan clips
      • One pair of 92mm fan clips
      • One tube of thermal transfer compound
      • One plastic protective sheet
      • One base plate
      • Some screws
