Supreme Commander
Average Frame Rate
Test results at screen resolution of 1280 x 1024
In Supreme Commander, the performance of the processor has a noticeable effect on the frame rate. Even though the QX9650 runs at the same speed as the QX6850, it recorded a 4% higher frame rate, all thanks to its larger L2 cache. When compared the dual-core E6850, also running at the same clock speed of 3 GHz, the QX9650 was 8.6% faster. So, you do benefit a little from the extra processing cores in Supreme Commander.
QX9650 Vs. QX6850
To determine the effect of the larger 12MB L2 cache in the QX9650 over the 8MB L2 cache in its older brother, the QX6850 (running at the same clock speed), we tested and compared both processors at three different resolutions :
It's obvious that the larger L2 cache alone contributes to a small boost in frame rate. However, it's too small a difference for you to upgrade to the QX9650 if you are already using the QX6850. Let's see how it does in Crysis.
