Seagate ST1.3 Series

The Seagate ST1.3 series is Seagate's latest addition to their ST1 family of 1" drives. Such small drives are targeted at handheld devices and mobile phones, as well as USB storage devices like the Pocket Hard Drive.

Seagate used Perpendicular Recording Technology to achieve an amazing capacity of 12GB with this drive. In addition, Seagate managed to reduce its power consumption by 30%, compared to its predecessor!

This new drive will also feature technologies like :

  • Seagate SoftSonic acoustic dampening technology which makes the drive virtually silent to the human ear
  • Seagate RunOn technology which enables smooth audio and video streaming even under high-motion conditions
  • G-Force Protection technology which increases its capability to sustain impacts of up to 2000 Gs
  • Seagate

The ST1.3 series will debut in the fourth quarter of 2006 supporting the IDE interface. Seagate will initially offer a single capacity of 12GB.

Here is a list of its key features :

  • Tiny 1" form factor with dimensions of only 40 mm x 30 mm x 5 mm
  • Weighs only 14 g
  • Uses 30% less power than its predecessor
  • Optional drop-sensing technology improves its shock tolerance to 2000 Gs
  • Fluid dynamic bearing motor which delivers near silent performance
  • One second time-to-ready allows faster startups
