Usable Capacity

The Western Digital VelociRaptor officially has a formatted capacity of 300,069 MB. We checked that out by formatting both in NTFS using Windows Vista.

The actual formatted capacity for both BLFS and HFLS was 300,066,795,520 bytes. This is slightly (2.2 MB) lower than the official formatted capacity.

With about 103 MB allocated to the NTFS file system, the actual usable capacity was just under 300 GB.

Let's take a look at its specifications.
