Stock Cooler
Since this isn't the Radeon 9800XT, it didn't come with the huge copper heatsink. The stock cooler is puny, and has very small surface area. It didn't handle the heat very well, even at stock speed. The whole card was unbearably hot. Even if I had not been planning to overclock the card, I would definitely change to a better heatsink; it's really that bad! But let's see how it performed.

The consistency is embarrassing. But I have an explanation for that. The original clip was quite loose. It was impossible to mount it properly every time. On one occasion, the cooler actually fell partially off the card, and the reduced thermal dissipation caused the GPU temperature to shoot above 120°C! Naturally, this crashed the system.
At idle, the temperature hovered around 31-33°C. The average of all 3 runs was 42.2°C, while the maximum temperature recorded was 45°C. Don't be deceived by the delta results: the actual GPU temperature was 85 °C!
Note : These temperature readings are the delta (or differences) between GPU and case temperatures.

Despite running at 5V, it fared a lot better than the stock cooler did. The average of all 3 runs was 27.6°C.

Running at 12V dropped the temperature by a further 5°C. Noise level undoubtedly increased because of the higher speed. The average of all 3 runs is 22.9°C.
