Breather Hole

Like all hard drives, the Momentus 7200.2 hard drive comes with a breather hole. In this case, it's located on the upper left corner of the drive's top plate. The label on the top plate even warns you not to cover the hole.

The breather hole allows condensation inside the hard drive to escape as well as equalizes the hard drive's internal pressure with the ambient pressure. So, please make sure nothing occludes the breather hole when you install it.

Jumpers And Connectors

At the end of the PCB are the SATA power connector, SATA interface and jumper block (from left to right).

Unlike Parallel ATA drives, where the jumper block is used to set the drive as Master or Slave or to use Cable Select; the jumper block on this Serial ATA hard drive is only meant to set the SATA transfer mode.

By default, the drive is set to run at SATA 3Gb/s. Although there are no instructions on how to switch to SATA 1.5Gb/s, it's likely you will need to swap the jumper over to the other two pins. However, please do not do so without first consulting a Seagate technician.
