PCI Express Power Connector
Even with a more power-efficient GPU, the card still requires more power than the PCI Express connector can provide.
Hence, the need for an additional 6-pin power connector on the PCB. Just connect it to your power supply using the provided cable and your card will be good to go!
Unlike the 4-pin Molex power connectors used in the past, the 6-pin PCI Express power connector supplies more power. So only one is needed for the GeForce 7900 GT.
However, you still need to hook it up to two 4-pin Molex power connectors from your power supply.
Memory Chips
The XFX GeForce 7900 GT Extreme Edition uses Samsung K4J55323QG GDDR3 SDRAM chips.
These BC-14 grade chips are rated at 700MHz but XFX overclocks them to 750MHz in the GeForce 7900 GT Extreme Edition.
That's an overclock of about 7% over the rated speed. But such a small overclock should not cause any problems, even though the memory chips are not cooled.
However, the lack of cooling will cut down on its overclockability.
The GPU
Popping off the cooler, we find the NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT GPU!
As you can see, the GPU doesn't come with a shim to protect the core from being crushed by improper heatsink installation.
So, take care if you ever take remove and reinstall this cooler, or if you are installing an aftermarket cooler.
With all that done, let's see how this puppy runs!
