Provided Software

EPoX provided two utilities with this mainboard - the ThunderProbe and ThunderFlash utilities.

ThunderProbe

For hardware monitoring, the EP-9U1697 uses the ThunderProbe software. ThunderProbe allows you to check the temperature, voltage, fan speed and clock speed of your system.

When you first install ThunderProbe and start it up, a GhostMonitor will appear at one corner of the Windows desktop. It's a small, transparent window showing the temperature, voltage and fan speed of your CPU.

To disable Ghost Monitor, simple right-click on the ThunderProbe icon on the taskbar and uncheck "Ghost Monitor".

To bring up the ThunderProbe control panel, right-click on the ThunderProbe icon on your taskbar and select "Configure".

This is what the ThunderProbe control panel looks like (first picture below). If you click on the Alarm option, you will be allowed to set the thresholds at which you want to be alerted.

You can set up the ThunderProbe utility by clicking on the Setup option. If you are looking to check the fan speeds, just click on the Fan Control option.

ThunderFlash

The ThunderFlash software allows you to instantly download the latest BIOS from EPoX's website and flash it into the motherboard's EEPROM. You can change the boot-up options through this utility too.

It also allows you to create recovery disks, in case your motherboard fails to boot after a bad flash. If that happens, simply insert the recovery disk you created when the GhostBIOS screen appears.
