Far Cry
Far Cry was evidently CPU-limited because there was virtually no change in performance even when we overclocked the GeForce 7950 GX2. Our testbed, which uses an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ overclocked to 2.6GHz, was not fast enough to show this card's potential.
This is a good indication of the kind of system you should have before you think about buying this card. You will need a faster system than that if you want to be able to fully realize this card's potential.
F.E.A.R.
F.E.A.R. was more GPU-intensive. Hence, the GeForce 7950 GX2 was still able to showcase its enormous processing power. When we overclocked the GPUs by 20% and the memory by 30%, we saw a 23% boost in performance!
The overclocked GeForce 7950 GX2 was now 79.5% faster than the GeForce 7900 GTX and 2.5X faster than the GeForce 7900 GT. Remember, these cards were tested at 16xAF and 4xAA.
Half Life 2
Like Far Cry, Half Life 2 was also CPU-limited. There was only a miniscule increase in frame rate when we overclocked the GeForce 7950 GX2.
A faster system is definitely required to maximize this card's potential. Quad SLI? Forget it unless you have a really, REALLY fast system.
