Inside The Box
This is what you will see when you open up the box. Right away, you are greeted by the sight of the cooler.
The cooler appears to fit snugly into the box. However, it wasn't wrapped in plastic or foam to protect it. While the hard cardboard box should protect it against blunt force, the shiny surface of the heatsink fins and the copper heatpipes may be scratched by the the Socket A mounting prong they loosely placed in the same compartment.
A white cardboard partition separates the partition containing the cooler and the Socket A mounting prong from the rest of the package. Let's pull out that partition and see what else is provided.
In the smaller partition, Scythe placed the rest of the mounting components as well as the manual. All in all, you will find the following in the box :
- One Scythe Katana cooler
- One bag of mounting plates
- One bag of screws and mounting components
- One Socket A mounting prong
- One Installation Guide
Mounting Components
Here are all the mounting components you will find in the package.
The reason why there are so many components is that this cooler was designed to fit a really wide variety of processors. They even provided a small pack of white thermal paste.
However, we were surprised to see the poor finish on the mounting plates. You can clearly see scratches and black smudges on them. Of course, those do not really affect the cooler's performance. But they sure do diminish the high expectations we had of Scythe.
Manual
The manual actually consists of just a single sheet of installation instructions. But despite its deceptive simplicity, it covers the installation of the cooler on all supported platforms!
Not only does the installation guide narrate the installation procedures, it also has some pictures to guide you when you install the cooler.
