TLC Girls Taking A Selfie
Girls always love taking selfies. Especially pretty girls like Angela, Mitchell and Race from The LifeStyle Clinic.
Their biggest problem? Coming out looking nice even in dark conditions. This is where the Apple iPhone 6 is at a distinct disadvantage. Apple may have given it a faster f/2.2 lens but it still sports a puny 1.2 megapixel sensor. It's a peashooter compare to the Samsung Galaxy S6's f/1.9 lens and 5 megapixel sensor.
Needless to say, it's no surprise to see the iPhone 6 produce really noisy, blotchy photos in this dim scene. The Galaxy S6's selfie shot looks much better, even though it does look overly smoothened. Of course, some girls prefer that...
TLC Girls Taking A Selfie (A Closer Look)
In the close-up of their faces, the Apple iPhone 6 made them look like they have blotchy skin, but the truth was revealed by the Samsung Galaxy S6 - they really have smooth, even skin tones. And oh my, such white teeth!
If we take a look at the wood panels behind them, we can see that they appear blur and noisy when taken by the iPhone 6, but sharper and much less noisy when taken by the Galaxy S6.

The Girls Taking Another Selfie
Here, Mitchell and Race pose for another selfie. Who can blame them? Even I would ask for MOARRRRRR...
When taken by itself, the Apple iPhone 6 acquitted itself well, considering the low-light condition it was taken in, and the low-resolution sensor it was taken with. However, the Samsung Galaxy S6's front camera blew it away - the selfie was bright and sharp with good colour saturation, albeit overly smoothened. There is no doubt which shot they would prefer...

In the close-up of Race, the Apple iPhone 6 made her look like she had blotchy skin, but the truth was revealed by the Samsung Galaxy S6 - she really had smooth, even skin tones.
If you take a closer look at Mitchell's hair, it looks less well-defined in the iPhone 6's shot, while the Galaxy S6's shot had better definition and was obviously brighter. That said, some details were lost in the Galaxy S6's shot, due to the smoothing effect used.

The Conclusion (For Now)
The photos taken by the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge in this comparison were based on the earlier firmware they shipped with. Samsung just sent out another update, so these might improve the quality of the photos they take.
We noticed that in the outdoor scenes, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge overexposed all of the shots they took. Since their camera is essentially a combination of a new, brighter f/1.9 lens with the existing 16 megapixel sensor used in the Galaxy Note Edge, it is possible that they have not yet updated their software to account for the brighter f/1.9 lens.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, however, excelled indoors, especially in low-light conditions. Their faster f/1.9 lens allowed more light to reach the sensor, both improving the quality of the picture taken, and reducing any blurring caused by shaky hands. Their higher-resolution sensor gave the images they captured much greater detail with less noise than what we saw with the Apple iPhone 6.
This was most pronounced with selfies, where the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge both boast a 5 megapixel sensor with a fast f/1.9 lens, while the iPhone 6 could only muster a pitiful 1.2 megapixel sensor. Even though Apple gave the iPhone 6 a new and faster f/2.2 lens, there is only so much the 1.2 megapixel sensor can do. The difference was so stark, it wasn't much of a contest.
There is no doubt that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge have a better rear camera, and a significantly better front camera, than the Apple iPhone 6. If on-the-go photography is what you enjoy doing, or if selfies are important to you, then the choice is obvious. However, Samsung needs to fix the overexposure problem... FAST.
