Hardware Tessellation Performance
Although ATI had a massive headstart with hardware tessellation acceleration, NVIDIA claims that their GeForce GTX 480 GPU is better at tessellation than the ATI Radeon HD 5870.

In the Unigine Heaven benchmark, the GeForce GTX 480 successfully maintained the frame rate above 30 fps but the Radeon HD 5870 went below 30 fps about half the time.

NVIDIA wanted to emphasize that in some scenes where the load was low, the Radeon HD 5870 may be able to match the GeForce GTX 480's performance. However, in scenes where there is a high level of geometric detail, the GeForce GTX 480 is actually twice as fast as the Radeon HD 5870.
