Vizo Luxon 3.5" USB & SATA External HDD Enclosure Review

The Luxon

There's just something cool and wicked about metallic-finished chassis, which is what I love about the Luxon. It has a really cool gray metallic finish that feels good to look and touch.

Like many 3.5" HDD enclosures, the Luxon is barely larger than the hard drive it is supposed to contain. But even though it is sleek and slim, its aluminium body gave it enough heft to feel like a quality piece of equipment.

The Luxon is designed to stand vertically, with the help of a simple removable stand. With only four small rubber grips to hold the enclosure in place, the stand is hardly sufficient in keeping the enclosure stable.

As such, the Luxon works best lying on one side, where it is most stable. You can use it vertically, but you need to take care not to move or topple the enclosure while it is running. As the stand cannot ensure the stability of the vertical orientation, it's best not to touch the enclosure while it is running.

The right side of the enclosure has a very nice design with the Luxon name etched on it. You can also see the labels for the various switches etched on the gray aluminium cover on the far right. There's absolutely nothing on the other side. If you intend to place this enclosure on its side, the right side should naturally be on top.

Left Side

The front of the enclosure is devoid of anything but a small Vizo logo and a Power/Activity LED light. It lights up with a blue colour when turned on, and flashes in purple whenever there's activity. It's useful in ensuring that you do not turn off the enclosure while there's still read or write activity going on.

The rear end of the enclosure is where you will find (from left to right) the USB port, the SATA port, the power button and the power port.
