The Toshiba TransMemory

The Toshiba 512MB TransMemory drive is a very slim affair. At less than 0.8 cm (0.3") thick, it will certainly slip into any pocket and remain completely unobtrusive.

It has a simple but classy design with a gray chassis and silver trimmings. The front sports a small Toshiba logo and lists the drive's capacity and USB capability. In the back, you will see nothing more than the drive's serial number and its place of manufacture.

Here is what the drive looks like from the side. As you can see, it's a very slim design. The silver trim goes all around the edge of the drive.

With The Cap Removed

The USB connector is protected by a thin plastic cap on one end. The semi-circular ring on the cap and the finger ring on the other end of the drive make it easier for you to pull off the cap.

Activity LED

The activity LED is located near the cap in the front. This flashes a bright blue colour whenever there's read or write activity. It's a useful feature as it prevents you from removing the drive while data is still being read from or written to it.

Please note that while this location of the LED should not be a problem with most USB ports, if the USB port you are using is placed upside down (like in certain notebooks), then you won't be able to see the activity LED at all.

Lanyard Hole

At the end of the drive, there's a rectangular hole at the top. That's where you are supposed to tie the lanyard's string to.

Of course, if you prefer, you can always tie it to finger ring...
