Western Digital AV-GP 2 TB Hard Disk Drive Review

WinBench 99 Version 2.0

Business Disk WinBench 99

The 2 TB AV-GP did better than its Caviar Green brother, delivering an average throughput of 11.12 MB/s in this test. That puts it just ahead of the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10, which is a 7,200 RPM hard disk drive.

High-End Disk WinBench 99

In the High-End Disk WinBench 99 test, the 2 TB Western Digital AV-GP did pretty well. It was faster than the 2 TB Western Digital Caviar Green by almost 25%, allowing it to come close to the performance of the 750 GB Western Digital Caviar Blue hard disk drive.

Disk Transfer Rate

This chart shows you the range of platter-to-buffer transfer rates from the innermost track to the outermost track. In other words, it shows you the range of disk transfer rates of the hard drives (from minimum and maximum).

Every Western Digital Green Power hard drive model has its own spindle speed which lies between 5,400 RPM and 7,200 RPM. Western Digital will not reveal their spindle speeds, but some claim that the actual spindle speed is just slightly above 5400 RPM, at just 5405 RPM.

Therefore, it is not surprising to see that the 2 TB AV-GP drive has a relatively low minimum transfer rate of just above 51 MB/s. However, thanks to its very high areal density, the 2 TB AV-GP had a transfer rate of 103 MB/s at the outer tracks. That makes it about 3% faster than the 2 TB Western Digital Caviar Green.
