The Card

This time, ASUS chose to revert to the ATI reference design, including the cooler which was albeit slightly modified. This card, therefore, does not come with the unique voltage monitoring feature. Nor does it support multiple temperature readouts.

Despite coming with the LM63 chip, this card has no temperature monitoring support at all! Hence, there is no OVERDRIVE support too. What a disappointment!

The general layout looks extremely similar to the Radeon 9800 XT. The cooler design is very similar too. The heat sink is made from copper and the cooler is a single-slot solution that does not take up the adjacent PCI slot.

Removing the cooler, this is what you will see.

The cooler is actually only in contact with R420 GPU. The memory chips are not in contact with the copper heat sink at all.
