XFX GeForce 7900 GT Extreme Edition Graphics Card

The XFX GeForce 7900 GT Extreme Edition performed really well in our tests. In most of the game benchmarks, this card managed to beat the NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT card by 20-30% at stock speeds. This improved to about 40-60% when the card was further overclocked!

The card itself is really nothing special. It followed the NVIDIA reference design, albeit factory-overclocked to 520MHz core and 750MHz memory. XFX even used the same cooler, even though both core and memory were overclocked.

The included bundle was bare, with games included as part of the package. The two DVI-to-VGA adaptors are the only consolation. But the card certainly made up for it with its raw performance and phenomenal overclockability!

We have no idea if this is the norm or the exception but our card was highly overclockable. We managed to push this card to 590MHz core and 870MHz memory. That's a cool boost of 140MHz (31%) in GPU speed and 210MHz (31.2%) in memory speed!

The street price of this XFX GeForce 7900GT Extreme Edition is below $300 at the time of writing. This is therefore the best bang-for-the-buck deal in the high-end category for NVIDIA graphics cards. XFX actually has an even faster model (even more extreme? ) - one with a 550MHz core and a 815MHz memory speed. XFX also has VIVO-enabled cards in their lineup.

Couple this card's great performance at "stock speeds" with its incredible overclockability, and we have a real winner here. We like this card so much that we think you will agree that this card deserves nothing less than our Editor's Choice Award. Congratulations, XFX!

* Our New Review System

ARP is committed to developing new ways to improve your experience with us. As part of our continuous efforts to improve the value of our reviews to you, we are implementing a new review system.

This new review system is designed to allow you to quickly receive information on the latest hardware. This new system also allows you to quickly get the gist of the review without reading through it. This can be very useful, especially in situations where you need to make a quick purchase decision.

In this new system, we start with a Product Overview whenever a company sends us a press release about their latest product. We shift through extraneous PR-talk to create a straightforward summary of the product's features as well as its specifications. This allows you to quickly find out all the pertinent details about the product, without reading through official press releases.

When we receive the product for review, we will quickly take photos of it and create a Pictorial Review. The purpose of a pictorial review is to allow you, the reader, to quickly examine the product visually. It may help you make better purchase decisions, especially if you cannot wait for the full review.

After thorough testing, we will post a Comprehensive Review of the product. This adds on to the pictorial review with comprehensive test results and our final conclusion on the product.

But no matter whether you are reading a Pictorial Review or a Comprehensive Review, you can always read the summary of the review as well as examine the product's specifications right on the first page. In all our new reviews, we will maintain the first page as a Product Overview page. If the product is listed in PriceGrabber, you can also check out the lowest price online.

We hope this new review system will make your experience a lot more enjoyable and informative!
