Graphics & Sound
POP:WW comes with more detailed textures in the environment, even though the game still runs on the original graphics engine.
Apart from these improvements, the game feels the same as POP:TSOT. The graphics are superb, as usual.
Unlike POP:TSOT, POP:WW involves a lot of blood. Fortunately, the gory part is not as bad as Blood Rayne, where you actually see pools of maroon liquid on the floor. The developers of POP:WW has included the option to turn off the gore if you get too squeamish.
When it comes to sound, I'll have to admit that the soundtrack is really great! The heavy metal/rock soundtrack gives you a rush during combat. For non-combat scenes, the soundtrack features some gloomy music that lends the game an archaic feel.
However, I had very bad experiences with the sound effects on my system. Throughout the game, there were frequent crackling noises. In fact, I believe there may be a bug in the game, with regards to the sound effects. This is especially pronounced when you fast-forward through the cut-scenes.
There were many occasions where the cut-scenes would just freeze and everything would drop to just one frame per second! It would take quite a while before the game resumed. In those instances, the music and the “rewind” sound effect would go mute.
The only thing I really don’t like about the audio component of this game would have to be the corny one-liners from the prince. I would rather he stop talking to himself, as well as the minions who are obviously not listening to him. Well, maybe he’s saying all that to psych himself for the challenge.
