The Best GeForce 8600 GT Upgrade
According to the latest Steam survey, 83% of Steam gamers have yet to upgrade to a DirectX 11 graphics card. In fact, the 4th most popular card in the survey was the GeForce 9600 series while the 7th most popular was the GeForce 8600 series. It stands to good reason too. Most games do not really quite a ton of graphics processing power to play. In fact, other than Crysis, what other games actually require the power of a GeForce GTX 580 for example?
However, NVIDIA is looking to convert these tardy upgraders to the GeForce GTX 550 Ti. The main target are users of the popular NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT, which was launched back in April 2007. This is because the GeForce GTX 550 Ti represents a tremendous upgrade over the GeForce 8600 GT.
The NVIDIA GeForce 550 Ti not only supports DirectX 11, it also offers 6x better performance with 3x better geometry throughput and 3x the memory bandwidth of the GeForce 8600 GT. It also has four times as much memory.
In case you are not convinced by mere numbers, NVIDIA provided some sample screenshots of the GeForce 8600 GT and the GeForce GTX 550 Ti at the same frame rate. Take a look :
Just Cause 2
Mafia II
