HDTach 3.010
Average Read Speed
The Toshiba MK1234GSX was slower than both Momentus 5400.2 and Momentus 5400.3, even though all three are 5400 RPM hard drives. The Seagate Momentus 5400.2 hard drive was 10.4% faster than the Toshiba hard drive while the higher-density Momentus 5400.3 was even faster - it was 17.2% faster than the Toshiba MK1234GSX.
But it was certainly faster than a 4200 RPM hard drive like the Fujitsu MHT2040AT. It had a 33.3% faster read speed than the Fujitsu hard drive.
Burst Speed
Thanks to its large 8MB SDRAM buffer, the Toshiba MK1234GSX had a burst speed in excess of 80MB/s. However, its burst speed was slightly (4%) slower than the Seagate Momentus hard drives, probably due to a lower buffer clock speed.
Random Access
HDTach pegged the Toshiba MK1234GSX between the Momentus 5400.2 and the Momentus 5400.3. Pretty much in the ballpark for a 5400 RPM hard drive.
CPU Utilization
As far as CPU utilization is concerned, the difference between 2% and 5% is actually within the benchmark's margin of error and therefore can be considered more or less similar.
