OCZ PC2-8000 Titanium Alpha VX2 DDR2 Memory Kit Review

The Module

Each PC2-8000 Titanium Alpha VX2 module is covered by two multi-coloured XTC heatspreaders. While XTC heatspreaders have been around for some time, these heatspreaders are quite different.

They feature a unique titanium deposition coating process that gives them a peculiar colour scheme that changes colour at different angles, and in different lighting. It's like looking at the sheen of oil on water.

Thanks to this coating, no two modules will ever look alike. That makes these modules unique in more ways than one.

The titanium coat also makes the heatspreaders resistant to scratches. This should be great news for those who intend to resell their memory modules. A scratch-resistant heatspreader would certainly go a long way to preserving the resale value of these modules.

In the center of the both heatspreaders is a stylized Z, instead of the usual OCZ logo. The only difference between the front and back heatspreaders is a white label.

It confirms that this is truly the OCZ PC-8000 Titanium Alpha VX2 module with a capacity of 1024MB and rated timings of 4-4-4-15.

Peeking under the heatspreaders, we noticed nothing out of the ordinary. The memory chips were all properly taped to the heatspreaders.

Unlike other OCZ modules, these heatspreaders were held in place by only thermal tape. While it's possible to peel off the heatspreaders, it will almost certainly result in bent heatspreaders.

Also, note that removing the heatspreader automatically voids the module's lifetime warranty. So, don't attempt it unless you absolutely MUST peek at the memory chips.
