Kingston 15-In-1 Hi-Speed Reader Pictorial Review

USB Cable

This card reader supports USB 2.0 Hi-Speed for a maximum throughput of 480 Mbits/s. It can also be used with older USB 1.1 ports but that reduces its maximum throughput to 12Mbits/s.

The USB cable is long at 120 cm with a standard USB connector on one end and a mini USB connector on the other end. The use of the mini USB connector reduces the size of the card reader but it doesn't do much for the cable.

The cable still presents a considerable bulk and this reduces the advantage of making the card reader so small. Unfortunately, to keep the card reader compact, it does not come with an integrated USB connector. So, the cable is a necessary burden even if you don't need anything that long.

However, unlike USB cables that come with many card readers, this USB cable has a ferrite core filter near the mini USB connector. The core filter reduces interference on the USB signals and is a welcomed sight.

Warranty Statement

The package includes a folded sheet which covers the five year warranty policy that Kingston provides for this card reader.

Although such solid-state devices are unlikely to break down for years, it's still nice to have the assurance of a 5-year warranty. Other card readers usually come with a year's warranty at most.

Installation Instructions

The cardboard insert actually does more than display information on the card reader as part of the retail package. Hidden within are installation instructions in English and other languages.

But to access them, you have to tear along the perforated edges of the cardboard insert.
