Razer Krait Optical Gaming Mouse Review

Conclusion

The packaging is as professional and solid as those from top manufacturers like Logitech or Microsoft. No cheap packaging for a mouse of this pedigree! The design of the mouse itself speaks volumes about the amount of engineering that goes into it.

The Razer Krait appears to be a lower-cost development of the Razer Diamondback. The two mice share a lot of common points, like the same basic design, the same 7-feet long mouse cord with a gold-plated USB connector. They even use what appears to be the same 1600 dpi optical sensor.

However, the Krait only has 3 programmable buttons, as opposed to the Diamondback's 7 programmable buttons. What it essentially means is that the Diamondback has two extra buttons on each side while the Krait comes with nothing but two large buttons and a single clickable scroll wheel.

Whether the "loss" of four side buttons is really an issue for the gamer, well, that depends on the type of games played, as well as the gamer's own inclination. But for those who do not like to use side buttons, the Razer Krait offers you the same performance as the Diamondback, without the price tag.

However, our long tests of this mouse exposed a sensitivity to mobile phone signals. That could be a real problem especially if you are not aware of the issue. You may think that the Krait is malfunctioning when it's merely sensitive to incoming mobile phone signals.

We also noted a degradation in the performance of the scroll wheel. But this could be an exception affecting our mouse, rather than the norm for all Kraits. In any case, the Krait comes with a one-year warranty. So, if your Krait is affected by this problem, just let Razer know about it.

However, do not let these issues cloud what is genuinely a great budget gaming mouse. If you are not a fan of side buttons, this is a great mouse to consider. It offers you the performance of more expensive mice like the Razer Diamondback without paying for it. Just keep mobile phones away from it and you have a real bargain in your hands!
