Conclusion

As you can see, the new GeForce 7900 GTX and GeForce 7900 GT cards are pretty impressive. Granted, they do not come with significant improvements in feature set or performance. In a sense, they are more evolutionary, than revolutionary. And that's reflected in the small upgrade in model number from 7800 to 7900.

But let's not just consider the benchmark numbers. Such mid-cycle updates to the architecture bring benefits beyond just the obvious boost in performance. The new GPUs have been tweaked, resulting in a smaller number of transistors and a smaller size, thanks in part to the smaller process technology. This will undoubtedly reduce the cost of manufacturing each GPU. Hopefully, that will reflect in lower GPU prices and more affordable cards.

The new GeForce 7900 GTX and 7900 GT GPUs also use less power and emit less heat. This reduces power consumption and obviates the need for bigger and noisier coolers. It also raises the possibility of better overclockability.
