Graphics Memory
The NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT used Samsung K4J52324QE-BC14 memory chips. These are 512 Mb (64 MB) GDDR3 SDRAM chips. Only four of these memory chips are required to give the GeForce 8600 GT a memory capacity of 256MB.
These 136-ball FBGA memory chips have a rated clock speed of 700 MHz at core at an IO voltage of 1.9V. This gives the card an effective memory bandwidth of 22.4 GB/s.
Size Comparison
The NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT is only 17 cm long (from bracket to end of the PCB) and 9.8 cm wide (not including the PCI Express connector). It is approximately 1.5 cm thick. This allows it to fit even in HTPC or low-profile cases. To give you an idea of how small it is, we compared the NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT against the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT and the ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT.
In both pictures, the GeForce 8600 GT is on top, with the GeForce 8800 GT in the middle and the Radeon HD 2900 XT at the bottom. As you can see, the NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT is very petite card. It takes up much less volume than the other two cards.
