IO Meter
Throughput (Random Access)
Talk about blowing something out of the water... it is obvious that when it comes to random access, fast solid state drives are definitely much, much faster than the fastest hard disk drives. The difference is especially stupendous with small random accesses.
Random Access Time
The reason for the tremendous performance advantage of the Intel SSDs can be seen here. Both Intel SSDs have very, very short random access times, compared to the VelociRaptors. The latest third-generation VelociRaptor actually suffers in this respect, due to the "Advanced Format Technology effect". Thus, the older 600 GB VelociRaptor is actually faster at random accesses.
