Is This The Death Knell For Spams?

Unfortunately, no. At least, not yet. While we can count on spammers to find ingenious ways of overcoming even Bayesian spam filters, such filters are still a powerful tool against spammers. As more people use Bayesian spam filters to fight spam, the conversion rates of spam mails will fall drastically. Hopefully, this will make it less profitable for them to keep spamming.

No one should not rely on just network-level filters that use RBLs to filter out spam. This is a common measure, one that spammers have a lot of experience overcoming.

End-user filters such as Bayesian spam filters are harder to thwart as these filters use databases that are unique to every user. Therefore, spammers will have a hard time trying to devise a method to circumvent such filters.

What really needs to be done now is to make more users aware of these Bayesian spam filters and how important it is for them to start utilizing them. Once the number of users reaches a critical mass, spam mails will become so ineffective that spammers will literally be run out of business.

Where Do I Sign Up?

There are a lot of resources on Bayesian spam filters on the Internet and so many filters to choose from. I'm now using the Outlook plug-in version of SpamBayes but this is not the only Bayesian spam filter available.

Death2spam is also another interesting Bayesian spam filter you can consider. It works by retrieving your POP mails, filtering and scoring; and then tagging them before you download them to your e-mail client.

In fact, you should check out this page first for links to other Bayesian spam filters before you decide on the best spam filter for you. And don't worry, there are a number of free Bayesian spam filters out there!

Spammers Will Die Eventually

I believe it is really only a question of when. The time will come when all of us will use Bayesian spam filters or better yet, have it come as a default feature in future e-mail clients. Then, we shall see who is the boss - spammers or us!

So, what are you waiting for? Get yourself a Bayesian spam filter now and start fighting this war against spam!

And if you ask me if we have found the digital pesticide we have been searching for, I would say "YES! Start using it!"

Die spam... DIE!
