Mounting The SI-97

First things first. You need to apply a thin and even layer of your favourite thermal transfer compound to the processor. Using the edge of a credit card is a good way of achieving a thin and even layer.

After doing so, align the Thermalright SI-97 over the processor. Then, align the retention clip over the SI-97's base as shown in the pictures below.

Please note that the SI-97 should be positioned with its heatpipes positioned to the side of retention clip where the lever meets the clip. Take a look at the picture on the right (above).

For those who are familiar with this heatsink, you will probably notice that the SI-97 is aligned slightly off center. This is perfectly alright since, just like the SI-97A and the XP-90, the SI-97's base never could cover the whole of the processor's heatspreader. Many third party heatsinks do not cover the whole heatspreader either.

If the picture above is not detailed enough, do take a look at this picture on the right.

Imagine the red lines as outlines of the SI-97's base and the green lines as the stock cooler's retention clip. You can choose to align the SI-97 either slightly off to the left side or a little to the right side.

After you align the SI-97 and the retention clip over the processor, now you need to do is attach the retention clip to both sides of the mounting bracket on your motherboard. Sounds exactly like mounting the stock heatsink, huh? Yes, it IS that simple.

However, please note that the retention clip should be positioned like this before you hook it to the mounting bracket. Otherwise, you would not be able to do so. Then, just push down the lever and your SI-97 will be securely mounted on your Socket 939 motherboard!

That's it! You have just mounted a Socket 462-compatible SI-97 onto your Socket 939 motherboard!
