Testing The Icemat 2nd Edition

To test the Icemat 2nd Edition mouse pad's capabilities, we turned to a variety of games and applications.

Games

Doom 3
Unreal Tournament 2004

Applications

Adobe Photoshop
Macromedia Fireworks

Now, let's see just how well the Icemat 2nd Edition performed!

Performance Report

When we first placed the Icemat 2nd Edition on the desk, we marvelled at how much desktop space it took up. There was definitely no lack of mousing surface with this mouse pad.

Thanks to its weight and plastic feet, it was firmly locked onto the desk once we placed it down. It wouldn't budge no matter how hard we tried to shift it. That's really excellent because nothing is more irritating than a mouse pad that shifts when you move your mouse.

Although it was irritating to so easily smudge up the undersurface of the mouse pad, the frosted mousing surface was a joy to use. The mouse glided very smoothly over it and it was a pleasure to rest the palm on it.

Games

The Icemat 2nd Edition was a joy to use in the games we tried. It provided a very large, unmovable surface to mouse on. There was no risk of running out of mousing surface to play on.

We had no problems tracking any targets with the Razer Diamondback on this mouse pad. The Icemat 2nd Edition worked great with the games we tried.

Applications

However, it was a slightly different story with the applications we tried. When making very tiny movements, we found that there was a tendency for the mouse pointer to "slip" a little. It was quite hard to make minute, accurate adjustments.

We didn't have this problem in the games earlier because we did not need to make adjustments on a pixel-by-pixel basis. This test showed that this mouse pad may not very suitable for graphics work. Of course, your experience may vary with the mouse you use.
