Sleek & Tough
Portable hard disk drives have become commoditized, with price and storage capacity being the main considerations for many consumers. Western Digital hopes to differentiate their new My Passport Slim by designing it to be more than just another portable HDD. To do that, they decided to make the slimmest and lightest portable HDD in the market, and thus was born the new My Passport Slim!
Although the new My Passport Slim looks like any other portable hard disk drive, it is actually only about the size of a wallet and weighs about the same. It is certainly thinner and lighter than any of its competitors. Check out the comparison below :

In the pictures below, we compared new My Passport Slim to the 2 TB My Passport. As you can see, it is slightly shorter (by 1 mm), slightly narrower (by 2 mm) but is much slimmer (by 8.7 mm). That makes it half as chunky as the full-sized My Passport portable hard disk drive. It also weighs almost half as much as the chunkier My Passport.
The new My Passport Slim's svelter and lighter design is thanks to the two main things - a thinner and lighter single platter hard disk drive inside, and its metal casing. Western Digital did not reveal what drive they used internally, but this is most likely the single-platter Western Digital Blue Slim (WD10PCX). Western Digital also refused to reveal what metal they used for the case, but it is likely to be an aluminium-based alloy. This not only gives it a thinner and lighter case, but also improves its ability to cool the internal drive.
