Multi-Positioning Column Mount
To allow rapid adjustment of the center column, the center column has a smooth surface and is not ratcheted, unlike what you would find in cheap tripods. It is held in place by a single screw lock in the center column mount.
To ensure the column stays fixed in place, the column is hexagonal in cross-section. As a Manfrotto PRO tripod, the column mount also comes with two hexagonal holes so you can install the column horizontally. You can see one of the holes in the picture below.
The column mount also comes with a built-in spirit level. This allows you to ensure that the camera stays level with the ground.
Right under the spirit level is a hook. If you need to steady the tripod, you can attach weights to the hook.
This column mount can be rotated 360°, so it offers a great deal of flexibility when you want to position the camera for a shot at a difficult angle.
Angle Locks
As mentioned earlier, the three legs have four preset angle settings for quick adjustments. These angles are controlled by an angle lock on each leg.
To adjust the angle of a leg, just push the leg downwards and depress the angle lock. Then you can free to adjust the leg to any angle you like.
To use a preset angle, just release the angle lock with the leg at the appropriate angle; and push the leg upwards. The angle lock will prevent the leg from going beyond the preset angle you select.
