Step 1 : De-Authorize Your Computer
The first thing you need to do is de-authorize your computer. If you forget this step, you will lose one of the 5 authorizations you are allowed per account. To do this, go to the Store menu (Alt-S) and click on De-authorise Computer...
You will be asked to enter your Apple ID and password. After doing so, click De-authorise.
If you typed in your Apple ID and password correctly, you will be rewarded with this pop-up box, announcing that your computer has been successfully de-authorized.
Do note that this only de-authorizes the current active iTunes account. If you are using multiple iTunes accounts, or share the computer with other iTunes users, you will need to switch accounts and de-authorize each and every account before going to the next step.
