Transfer Rate Range
This chart shows you the range of platter-to-buffer transfer rates from the innermost track to the outermost track. In other words, it shows you the range of disk transfer rates of the hard drives (from minimum and maximum).
Western Digital really pushed the boundaries of HDD technology with the 6 TB Western Digital Black (WD6001FZWX) hard disk drive. It boasts a minimum transfer rate of 110 MB/s and a peak transfer rate of 226 MB/s. This makes it roughly twice as fast as the older 3 TB hard disk drives in this comparison.
Platter Transfer Rate Profile
The platter profile of the 6 TB Western Digital Black (WD6001FZWX) drive we received was very good. There were no noticeable dips in throughput that would signify a significant use of replacement sectors. Lots of them would point to poor platter quality.
We also compared its platter profile to that of the 6 TB Western Digital Green, which uses the same 1.2 TB platters. You can see the performance advantage of spinning the same platters at a higher spindle speed of 7200 RPM, instead of just 5400 RPM.
Business Disk WinBench 99
As expected, the 6 TB Western Digital Black came in top, but surprisingly, it was just a little faster than the 6 TB Western Digital Green.

High-End Disk WinBench 99
In the High-End test though, the 6 TB Western Digital Black (WD6001FZWX) showed its mettle, showing how much faster the 7200 RPM drives are, compared to the 5400 RPM drives.
