OCZ PC-3200 Gold Voltage eXtreme Dual Channel DDR Memory Kit

The OCZ PC-3200 Gold Voltage eXtreme Dual Channel Memory Kit was a real joy to play with. We were totally amazed when we overclocked it. Even with the rated voltage of 3.2V, it kept going higher and higher.

It was a remarkable feat for these DDR400 modules to achieve DDR500 speeds at their stock voltage of 3.2V. This greatly reflects the speed binning that OCZ did to obtain such amazing performance. It appears that even Winbond UTT memory chips can perform as well as the famous BH-5 chips.

At the end of the day, we managed to overclock them to 260MHz or 520MHz DDR. That enabled the modules to produce read and write results that were over 30% faster than at stock speed. Now, that's a performance boost worthy of an exclamation mark!

We are now running these modules at DDR500 speeds with timing of 2-2-2-5 at just 3.3V. That's simply astounding performance from these memory modules, which are rated to run at only DDR400 and even then at slightly looser timings of 2-2-2-8 at 3.2V.

Backed by OCZ's lifetime warranty which covers these modules up to 3.5V, these modules are clearly targeted at the overclocking enthusiast who wants to squeeze out as much performance as they can out of their memory modules. They can have loads of fun playing with the voltage, the timings and the clock speed to find the sweet spot for their system.

Surprisingly, the heatspreaders were barely warm to touch, even at 3.5V. Although I had good airflow across the modules, we expected them to be quite a bit warmer. We checked the contact between the heatspreaders and the memory chips and they appeared to be good. Otherwise, we would have suspected there was poor contact between the heatspreaders and the memory chips.

With all that in mind, we are proud to bestow upon the OCZ PC-3200 Gold Voltage eXtreme Dual-Channel Memory Kit our Editor's Choice Award! Congratulations, OCZ!

* Our New Review System

ARP is committed to developing new ways to improve your experience with us. As part of our continuous efforts to improve the value of our reviews to you, we are implementing a new review system.

This new review system is designed to allow you to quickly receive information on the latest hardware. This new system also allows you to quickly get the gist of the review without reading through it. This can be very useful, especially in situations where you need to make a quick purchase decision.

In this new system, we start with a Product Overview whenever a company sends us a press release about their latest product. We shift through extraneous PR-talk to create a straightforward summary of the product's features as well as specifications. This allows you to quickly find out all the pertinent details about the product, without reading through official press releases.

When we receive the product for review, we will quickly take photos of it and create a Pictorial Review. The purpose of a pictorial review is to allow you, the reader, to quickly examine the product visually. It may help you make better purchase decisions, especially if you cannot wait for the full review.

After thorough testing, we will post a Comprehensive Review of the product. This adds on to the pictorial review with comprehensive test results and our final conclusion on the product.

But no matter whether you are reading a Pictorial Review or a Comprehensive Review, you can always read the summary of the review as well as examine the product's specifications right on the first page. In all our new reviews, we will maintain the first page as a Product Overview page. If the product is listed in PriceGrabber, you can also check out the lowest price online.

We hope this new review system will make your experience a lot more enjoyable and informative!
