UNIX Commands
Phew! With the file system out of the way, let's get down to some basic UNIX commands!
Since this is just a basic guide, I will mainly cover the basics commands, like copying, renaming, etc. These will allow you to move around the UNIX environment.
Since most of us will be using UNIX from a shell, let's take a look at what the shell looks like.
Now, the basic command syntax in UNIX is always in this form.
command [options][arguments]
A white space separates the options from the command and each option usually starts with a hyphen “-“. Multiple options can be invoked at one time. For example :-
foo –abc /home/foobar/
Options are pretty self-explanatory. What they do is modify the command when invoked. As for arguments, they determine what the command does to the argument.
