A Closer Look At The CCFL Kit

The Cold Cathode Lights

The first thing you will note about the CCFL is that it comes nicely shrink-wrapped to prevent the glass tube from being scratched. This shrink wrap was quite a pain to remove although it's really nothing compared to the value of having the tube shrink-wrapped.

Shrink warp protecting the CCFL

The CCFL is pretty standard as it is the same design used by all other manufacturers. I can only conclude that Bitspower is most probably getting the tubes from a main manufacturer, just like the other modding kit manufacturers. Now, I'm not going to explain how a CCFL works because you can probably get a better explanation from www.howstuffworks.com.

But you are probably wondering how they made a tri-colour CCFL, right? Well, I'm wondering too! But seriously, let's take a look at this picture first.

The border between 2 colour sections

Notice that there seems to be some sort of a border where the different colour sections meet. CCFL works on the principle of 'electrocuting' specific types of gasses to produce light. Using a different type of gas would produce a different colour. Therefore, to make a tri-colour CCFL, you would have to find a way to isolate different type of gases within a section but yet allowing electrons to be transferred across all sections.

Okay, enough about CCFLs...
