Kingston 15-In-1 Hi-Speed Reader Pictorial Review

The Card Reader

The Kingston 15-in-1 Hi-Speed Reader is a very small device. It is only 8.78 cm wide and 5.56 cm deep, so it will fit into even a shirt pocket. It also helps that it's just 1.6 cm thick.

In the front, there are four memory card slots. If you are wondering why there are only four slots when this card reader claims to support 15 different formats, it's really because those 15 formats are actually variations of four main formats.

Front
Back

There's only a mini USB port at the back of the reader. Incidentally, here's a guide to the four slots :

SmartMedia
SD
miniSD
MMC
RS-MMC
CompactFlash Type I/II
Memory Stick
Memory Stick PRO
Memory Stick PRO Duo

The top of the card reader is plain and has nothing but a Kingston logo and a single LED. The LED blinks purple and blue when you plug it into the USB port and stays a steady blue when it's fully activated.

There are two labels on the underside. The top label lists the Part Number, Assembly Number as well as its Serial Number. The bottom label, on the other hand, is a pictorial guide to the four card slots.

Bottom
Rubber Foot

The underside also sports two rubber feet. They provide traction so that the card reader stays on whatever surface you place it on. They also serve to cover the screws that hold the chassis together.

Unfortunately, during the short time we used this card reader, we found that the rubber feet were very easily detached. In fact, by the time we write this, one of the rubber feet had already dropped off and disappeared! We hope Kingston will switch to wider rubber feet or place them away from the screw holes.

Here are the views from the left and right sides. Although it looks thick in these photos, it's actually very slim at just 1.6 cm at the thickest point.
