The Icemat 2nd Edition
As you can see, the Icemat 2nd Edition mouse pad we received was the black model. When we lifted it out of the box, we were pretty surprised with the heft.
As mentioned earlier, the entire mouse pad is actually made from glass. So, it was no surprise when it weighed in at about 725 g. It is a real heavyweight, compared to regular mouse pads that weigh only 200-300 g. Although heavy, its use of glass ensures that it will never warp and will always provide an even, level mousing surface.
The mousing surface is slightly frosted but you can see through it to the base which is coated in black paint. Here, you can see the logo, which looks blurred due to the frosted glass surface.
While the frosted mousing surface is completely smudge-proof, the underside is very, very susceptible to smudges and fingerprints. Just take a look at the picture below.
The underside is probably the only delicate part of the Icemat 2nd Edition mouse pad. If you are not careful, it is possible scratch out the paint coat. Of course, that will not affect the mouse pad's performance since the painted base is really only for looks.
You can also see that the Icemat 2nd Edition is supported by six translucent plastic feet. Here's a close-up picture of one of the plastic foot.
The weight of the mouse pad as well as the "sticky" nature of the plastic feet ensure that the mouse pad stays firmly fixed to whichever surface you place it on.
Size Comparison
Here's a size comparison of the Icemat 2nd Edition with the Everglide Attack Optical mouse pad.
It has a large mousing surface which is 30 cm wide and 25 cm deep. That's a total surface area of 750 square cm!
