Edifier C3 2.1 Speaker System Review

Edifier

Edifier, founded in Beijing in 1996, is one of China's first specialized manufacturers of genuine wood enclosure speaker systems. Edifier was also the first speaker manufacturer in China to successfully develop an exclusive international market when it evolved in 1998 into a transnational group company selling in most major world markets.

Edifier has about 3,000 employees and more than two million square feet of manufacturing facilities with full product research and development, plastic injection, machining, molding, painting, silk-screen printing, product testing and assembly facilities. They have an annual output of eight million speaker sets.

Introduction

Many speaker companies seem to be putting more emphasis into design than the actual acoustics. Perhaps many people cannot truly appreciate the difference in audio quality. Certainly, people like a well-designed speaker set. It is therefore no surprise to find companies spending a little more effort into design, instead of concentrating only on the acoustics.

People also want their speakers to cost as low as possible. Considering that many would have already spent a month's salary (or more!) on a new PC, they would not want to spend too much on their speakers. Even though it's always nice to own a great set of speakers, not everyone can afford them. So, there is a large market for speaker systems that offer great value for money.

This is precisely the market that Edifier is targeting with their new C3 speaker set. Armed with many nifty little features, this 2.1 speaker set could just be what many of you are looking for. Let's see if they succeed in impressing us!

Packaging

Our review unit came in a plain white OEM box with no significant markings. Obviously, the retail packaging will be different. At the very least a printed box jacket. The box did seem rather heavy for a 2.1 speaker system.

Peeking from inside the box are the two satellite speakers packed tightly in moulded styrofoam together with the cables and a remote control. The subwoofer and amplifier were placed under the styrofoam tray.

The actual retail unit should have a similar, if not the same, packaging method. The distributor, Inter-Asia Technology, did mention that the retail box will come with a manual as well as proper plastic wrap for the different components.

Contents

Inside the box, you will find the following items :

  • Two Edifier C3 satellite speakers
  • One Edifier C3 subwoofer
  • One Edifier C3 amplifier
  • One power cable
  • One 3.5 mm stereo-to-RCA cable
  • Three speaker cables
  • One infra-red remote control
  • One user manual / installation guide

As mentioned earlier, our unit did not come with the manual but the retail box will come with one, or at least an installation guide.
