How Fast Is The GeForce GTS 450?

NVIDIA started off by comparing the geometry performance of the GeForce GTS 450 against the GeForce GTS 250 (which it would replace) and the even older GeForce 9600 GT. The GeForce GTS 450 will offer twice the geometry performance of the GeForce GTS 250, and 2.4x that of the old GeForce 9600 GT.

They also claim that the GeForce GTS 450 will offer twice the gaming performance of the GeForce 9600 GT, or 33% more than the GeForce GTS 250. This is based on running H.A.W.X. at 1680x1050 with 4x AA and 16x AF. The GeForce GTS 450 averaged 50 fps, while the GeForce GTS 250 managed 36 fps and the GeForce 9600 GT just 24 fps.

These benchmark results show the performance advantage of the GeForce GTS 450 over its "target competitor", the ATI Radeon HD 5750. NVIDIA claims the new GeForce GTS 450 will beat the Radeon HD 5750 by 33% in Unigine 2.0 and 65% in Stone Giant.

Here, NVIDIA shows the new GeForce GTS 450's performance superiority over its archrival, the Radeon HD 5750. On average, the GeForce GTS 450 should be about 30% faster than the Radeon HD 5750.

NVIDIA made a special point to remind us that the GeForce GTS 450 will run 31% faster than the Radeon HD 5750 in StarCraft II. It's obvious that they would like the thousands of LAN gamers still using older graphics cards to convert to the GeForce GTS 450 when StarCraft II hits the stands. If only the GeForce GTS 450 would also make the Zergs rush 31% faster...

If that's not good enough, NVIDIA revealed that the GeForce GTS 450 is also much faster than the Radeon HD 5770 - by about 14-15%. Even if you don't intend to play StarCraft II (what sacrilege!), you can still brag about beating the Radeon HD 5770. See, the card is not just targeted at gamers, it will also appeal to the child inside us all.

With that, NVIDIA concludes that the new GeForce GTS 450 will be a great upgrade option for gamers who are still using older G92-based graphics cards like the GeForce GTS 250, the GeForce 9800 GTX+ or even the GeForce 9600 GT.

It's not only about improved performance, it's also about supporting the new DirectX 11 games that are about to hit the market. Civilization V and H.A.W.X. 2 will be out on September 21 and September 22 respectively.
