For Developers Only
Well, what we really mean is that these are the details that would only interest software developers. First of all, CUDA 4.0 will introduce Unified Virtual Addressing (UVA), which makes it easier for the programmer as they only have to deal with a single address space.
CUDA 4.0 will also introduce the C++ Templatized Algorithms & Data Structures (Thrust), which would improve compilation performance.
The Highlights
To summarize, here are the highlights of CUDA 4.0.
The release candidate of CUDA 4.0 will be made available to registered CUDA developers by March 4th (or slightly earlier). The production version will be released a bit later (obviously) with no definite date at this point in time.
CUDA 4.0 will support a variety of operating systems from 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows to Linux and MacOS. However, the new Unified Virtual Addressing (UVA) feature requires 64-bit addressability so it will only work with a 64-bit operating system.
