OCZ PC2-8000 Titanium Alpha VX2 DDR2 Memory Kit Review

Introduction

OCZ Technology is one of the few manufacturers that pops into the mind when we are looking for high-performance memory for gaming machines.

Not only do they consistently come up with the fastest memory in the market, they are also known to take on "risky" endeavours, like overvolted memory modules. Of course, we prefer to think of it as being on the cutting-edge of memory technology.

Therefore, we were rubbing our hands with glee when OCZ Technology added a new VX (Voltage eXtreme) model to their DDR2 line of memory modules - the OCZ PC2-8000 Platinum Alpha VX2. Not only does this model support insanely high voltages for better overclocking, it also comes with a unique colour scheme. As you will soon see, it's unique in more ways than one!

So, join us today as we take a look at the new OCZ PC2-8000 Titanium Alpha VX2 DDR2 memory!

The Package

The OCZ PC2-8000 Titanium Alpha VX2 modules came in a clear plastic retail package, which is standard for all OCZ memory modules.

You can clearly see both modules in the front. The back of the package lists the features of these memory modules, as well as some accolades from various websites.

The clear plastic box allows the modules to be clearly seen but it doesn't provide enough protection from the horrors of modern day postal services on its own. You should further protect it with bubble wrap and a sturdy box if you intend to have it mailed.

This package was held together by two plastic locks and was therefore very, very simple to open, unlike some packaging which require you to use wicked blades and scissors to free the contents from their confines.

While such packaging may not quite help retail stores prevent theft, they help preserve value of these modules if you ever have to resell them. Just pack the modules back into the package and they will look as good as new!

Contents

Inside the package, you will find the following items :

  • Two OCZ PC2-8000 Titanium Alpha VX2 memory modules
  • One cardboard insert

There's nothing else in the package, just a the two memory modules and a cardboard insert.
