The Microphone

The HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset uses the same detachable microphone from the original HyperX Cloud gaming headset. It attaches to an audio port located under the left ear cup, right next to the audio cable. The audio port is normally covered by a rubber insert, which has to be removed to insert the microphone audio jack. The microphone has a 15 cm long flexible gooseneck tube, and is covered at the end by a removable soft foam cover.

Although the HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset's microphone is no different from the microphone used in the original HyperX Cloud, it supports noise cancellation, automatic gain control and even echo cancellation, thanks to the addition of the USB audio control box.

The USB Audio Control Box

The HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset's biggest improvement lies in the new USB Audio Control Box. This small little device conceals an audio DSP inside that automatically creates a virtual 7.1 surround sound without the need for any software or driver. The DSP also provides the microphone with its noise cancellation, automatic gain control and echo cancellation capabilities.

Middle button : Enables or disables the virtual 7.1 surround sound feature

Switch on the left side (next to the + button on the left) : Mutes or unmutes the microphone

Although it may not seem like much, the new audio control box is less cumbersome to use, compared to the audio control box in the original HyperX Cloud. This is it terminates in a USB connector, instead of two 3.5 mm audio jacks.

The Headset Connector

The HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset also improved cable management by using a single audio connector, instead of two separate connectors in the original HyperX Cloud. It also obviated the need for two additional cables that were part of the HyperX Cloud's package. For those who travel a lot, HyperX also provided an airplane adapter in the package.
