How Fast Is The X1950 XTX?

Now, let's take a look at some benchmark results that ATI provided. Although we would prefer to generate our own results, it's better than nothing while we wait for our review sample.

The Testbeds

The Benchmark Results

Memory Bandwidth Comparison

This is a comparison of the new X1950 XTX against the "old" X1900 XTX.

As you can see, the much higher memory clock speed allows the X1950 XTX to achieve 3-14% better frame rates.

Do note that these tests were done in the extremely high-definition resolution of 2560x1600. Needless to say, the benefit will be less evident with lower resolutions.

HDR With Anti-Aliasing

Evidently, no NVIDIA cards were present for this test.

In this test, ATI evidently wanted to show how much of a difference the higher memory clock speed in the X1950 XTX would make.

Extremely High Definition Gaming

This is a comparison of the X1950 XTX CrossFire, the X1900 CrossFire against competing NVIDIA cards like the GeForce 7900 GTX SLI and the GeForce 7950 GX2 Quad SLI. The GeForce 7900 GTX SLI was used as the baseline.

The results are pretty obvious. Both ATI CrossFire solutions were generally much faster than their equivalent NVIDIA counterparts. The only exceptions were Prey and Quake 4. But elsewhere, ATI claims you should see better 30% to 80% better performance with the new X1950 XTX.

Maximum Image Quality

The same comparison was repeated at the lower and more common resolution of 1600x1200, with maximum image quality settings.

No surprise here. The ATI cards solidly trumped both NVIDIA cards. Even the dual GPU GeForce 7950 GX2 was no challenge.
