3DMark03 GPU Comparison
First, let's pit a variety of mobile GPUs against the Mobility Radeon 9700. Below is a table of their clock speeds. Please note that all Radeons below are Mobility Radeon GPUs.

Let's take a look at the results :-
Overall 3DMark Score
At least in 3DMark03, the Mobility Radeon 9700 was far superior to the other GPUs in the comparison. Too bad we could not obtain scores for the Mobility Radeons X800 or X300.
Game Tests
The Mobility Radeon 9700 fared well in the Game tests. It only faltered against the NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5650 in the Battle Of Proxycon test. On the upside, it was significantly faster (37.6%) than the Go5650 in the Mother Nature test.
Fill Rate Tests
The Mobility Radeon 9700's single-texturing performance was not outstanding but it certainly shone in the multi-texturing test!
Other Feature Tests
The Mobility Radeon 9700's vertex and pixel shaders are certainly superior to those of the NVIDIA GPUs. It was almost twice as fast as the Go5650 in the Vertex Shader and Pixel Shader 2.0 tests.
Analysis
As far as 3DMark03 is concerned, the ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 performs about 9% faster than the GeForce FX Go5650. To be honest, that's nothing spectacular. I expected the Mobility Radeon 9700 to do far better than that.
Perhaps it is due to the fact that BenQ set the Mobility Radeon 9700's memory clock at a very low 216MHz. The low memory bandwidth is certain to reduce the Mobility Radeon 9700's overall performance. It would definitely have performed better had the memory clock been set to the rated speed of 260MHz.
