ED#191 : Samsung Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge Launch Date & Prices

When Samsung revealed the Samsung GALAXY S6 and the Samsung GALAXY S6 Edge smartphones, they said that they would be available worldwide on the 10th of April 2015. We later revealed that Malaysia will be one of the few countries where the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will be available first. However, it looks like they have brought forward the launch date for Malaysia.

We just received an email inviting us to the GALAXY S6 and GALAXY S6 Edge launch event next Thursday, the 2nd of April, 2015. This is most likely just the official launch event, with device availability still scheduled for the 10th of April. However, this invitation confirms that we were right about Malaysia being amongst the first countries in the world to receive the new GALAXY S6 and GALAXY S6 Edge smartphones.

The early official launch event also comes on top of the doubling of the number of launch countries from 10 to 20, and the recent revelation that a record 20 million units were pre-ordered by mobile carriers worldwide. It looks like Samsung is going all out to make the new GALAXY S6 and GALAXY S6 Edge their most successful smartphones ever.

We have also identified more launch countries and their launch prices. Check out the updated list :

• South Korea (naturally)

• United States of America : AT&T, Verizon and Sprint will offer pre-orders on the 27th of March, which will include a FREE wireless charging pad!

• United Kingdom : UK carriers have already started to offer pre-orders starting 20th March through a variety of plans. Those who pre-order will receive their smartphones on the 9th of April, a day earlier than official retail availability.

• Canada : Canadian carriers (Bell, Eastlink, Fido, Rogers, TELUS, Virgin, Wind, etc.) started offering pre-orders on the 17th of March.

• Italy : Samsung Italy started offering pre-orders on the 17th of March.

• The Netherlands : Vodafone and T-Mobile offering pre-orders right now.

• Malaysia : Maxis and DiGi would be offering pre-orders starting on the 2nd of April.

• Singapore

• India : Their official launch is taking place today, the 23rd of March, in the Taj Palace in New Delhi

• Turkey : Turkcell is offering pre-orders right now

• The Philippines : Their official launch is slightly later - on the 18th of April, with both devices available in 32 GB and 64 GB options but with dual SIM capability.

• South Africa : Pre-orders started on the 13th of March from carriers like Vodacom, Cellucity, etc. with a FREE wireless charging pad!

As for launch prices, the Galaxy S6 (32 GB) is selling for € 700 in The Netherlands, with the Galaxy S6 Edge (32 GB) priced at a hefty € 850. The Galaxy S6 is expected to sell in the US for US$ 699 for the 32 GB model.

In Canada, the Galaxy S6 is selling for CAD 729 / US$ 579 (32 GB), CAD 839 / US$ 666 (64 GB) and CAD 949 / US$ 754 (128 GB). The Galaxy S6 Edge, on the other hand, is priced at CAD 829 / US$ 659 (32 GB), CAD 939 / US$ 746 (64 GB) and CAD 1049 / US$ 833 (128 GB).

In Italy, the Galaxy S6 is selling for € 739 / US$ 779 (32 GB) and € 849 / US$ 919 (64 GB). The Galaxy S6 Edge, meanwhile, is priced at € 889 / US$ 962 (32 GB) and € 999 / US$ 1,081 (64 GB).

In Turkey, the Galaxy S6 (32 GB) will retail at US$ 956, while the Galaxy S6 Edge (32 GB) will retail for US$ 1,060.

In the Philippines, the Galaxy S6 will retail at P35,990 (US$ 803) for the 32 GB model, and P41,990 (US$ 937) for the 64 GB model. The Galaxy S6 Edge, on the other hand, will retail for P41,990 (US$ 937) for the 32 GB model, and P47,990 (US$ 1,071) for the 64 GB model.

In South Africa, the Galaxy S6 will only be available with 32 GB of storage for R11,999.90 (US$ 993) while the Galaxy S6 Edge will only be available with 64 GB of storage for R15,999.90 (US$ 1324).

Here in Malaysia, the Galaxy S6 (32 GB) is expected to sell for RM 2,499 while the Galaxy S6 Edge will be priced at RM 2,999.
